考研英语词汇汇总分享

　　今天的考研英语词汇重点词汇比较多，这些词的意思和用法都较为复杂，需要借助例句充分理解，然后牢记。像这种词汇仅仅记住中文释义，那么在英语文章出现的话，往往会造成常见的“单词都认识，但就是读不懂句子”的情形。
　　1、plead/plid/
　　plead是动词，它有两个常用意思。
　　一、意为“恳求，请求”，这个意思要注意搭配，
　　The lady pleaded with her daughter to come back home.
　　这位女士恳求她的女儿回家。
　　He was on his knees, pleading for forgiveness.
　　他跪在地上，乞求原谅。
　　第二，指在法庭上“承认”或者“否认”有罪，这个常用搭配为plead guilty/ not guilty/ innocent，也可指“辩护，申辩”。
　　The youth pleaded guilty to murdering the girl.
　　这位年轻人承认了那个女孩。
　　The judge ruled her unfit to plead on the grounds of insanity.
　　法官认定她精神失常，不适合在法庭上答辩。
　　2、pledge/pled/
　　pledge是个重点词，它主要有两个意思，都是作名词和动词都可以。
　　一、意为“誓言，保证”，作动词意为“发誓，许诺”。
　　The meeting ended with a pledge to step up cooperation between the six states of the region.
　　会议以承诺加快这一地区六国间的合作而结束。
　　All the candidates have made pledges not to raise taxes if they are elected.
　　所有的候选人都保证当选后不增税。
　　We are asking people to pledge their support for our campaign.
　　我们正请求人们承诺支持我们的运动。
　　I pledge that by next year we will have the problem solved.
　　我保证来年之前我们将解决这个问题。
　　第二，意为“承诺的捐款”，作动词意为“承诺捐款”。
　　a pledge of forty two million dollars a month.
　　每月拨款4,200万美元的承诺
　　The government has now pledged ￡170m over the next six years for improving primary care.
　　为了改善初级卫生保健工作，已承诺在未来6年内拨款1.7亿英镑。
　　3、plenty/plenti/
　　plenty的词性比较多，但是只有一种意思，意为“大量，丰富，充足”，主要用法和搭配需要通过下列例句掌握。
　　Most businesses face plenty of competition.（数量词）
　　大多数企业面临着巨大的竞争压力。
　　She's got plenty to do these days.（代词）
　　现如今她有很多的事情要做。
　　You are all fortunate to be growing up in a time of peace and plenty.（名词）
　　你们都很幸运，成长在和平富足的时代。
　　The compartment is plenty big enough.（副词）
　　这个隔间足够大了。
　　School inspectors visit regularly, finding everything satisfactory, books in plenty and five computer terminals.（短语）
　　督学定期进行检查，发现所有方面都令人满意，教材充足，还有5台计算机终端设备。
　　4、plight/plat/
　　plight是名词，意为“困境，苦难”，通常用单数形式。
　　We must direct our efforts towards relieving the plight of children living in poverty.
　　我们必须致力于减轻生活在贫困中的儿童的苦难。
　　Few of us can be unmoved by the plight of the Romanian orphans.
　　我们几乎无一不为罗马尼亚孤儿的困难处境而心有所感。
　　5、plot/plt/
　　plot这个小词意思不少，而且很常用。
　　一、指用作特殊用途的”一小块“土地。
　　I thought that I'd buy myself a small plot of land and build a house on it.
　　我想我该给自己买一小块地，在上面建一座房子。
　　第二，意为“阴谋，秘密计划”，也可作动词，意为“密谋，图谋”。
　　The plot was discovered before it was carried out.
　　这项阴谋还未得逞就暴露了。
　　They were accused of plotting against the state.
　　他们被指控密谋叛乱。
　　第三，指电视剧、电影、书籍的“情节”。
　　The book is well organized in terms of plot.

　　6、plough/pla/
　　plough在美国英语中拼作plow，发音一样，作名词指“犁”，作动词意为“犁，耕”。
　　These fields have been under the plough for centuries.
　　这些田地已耕种了好几个世纪了。
　　Farmers start ploughing in the spring.
　　春天农民开始耕种。
　　7、plug/plɡ/
　　plug作名词指“插头”，也可以指“塞子”，作动词意为“把…塞住，堵塞”。
　　The plug on my iron needs changing.
　　我熨斗上的插头需要更换了。
　　Somewhere in the pipes there is a plug of ice blocking the flow.
　　管子里某个位置有冰块堵住了水流。
　　He plugged the hole in the pipe with an old rag.
　　他用一块破布把管子上的那个洞塞住了。

　　8、plumber/plm/
　　plumber是名词，指“水管工，水暖工”。
　　9、plunge/plnd/
　　plunge是一个重点动词，它有两类意思。
　　一、基本含义为“向某个方向纵身一跳，一头进入”，引申为“将…投入，插入”，注意下面例句中的plunge词性、意思和搭配。
　　We ran down to the beach and plunged into the sea.
　　我们跑向海滩，纵身跳入海中。
　　She plunged her face into a bowl of cold water.
　　她把脸扎进一盆凉水里。
　　The government's political and economic reforms threaten to plunge the country into chaos.

　　10、poem/pm/
　　poem是可数名词，意为“诗，韵文”，而poet /pt/指“诗人”。poetry /ptri/是不可数名词，也指“诗歌”，但poetry是诗歌的总称，或者诗歌这种体裁。

　　我决定把我的感受写成一首诗。
　　He was a painter and poet.
