　　考研英语每日词汇，词汇作为考研英语的基础内容，要时常的复习总结，尤其在阅读时遇到的那些似曾相识却又不清楚含义的词，要及时查阅巩固，加深印象。
　　1、
　　If you follow the road signs you will simply find yourself going round in a circle. 如果按照路标走，你会发现自己不过是在转圈。
　　Alton has made himself fiercely unpopular in certain circles. 奥尔顿把自己搞得在某些圈子里极其不受欢迎。
　　She circled her birthday in red on the calendar. 她用红笔在日历上把自己的生日圈了出来。
　　Several airliners were circling above the airport. 几架客机在机场上空盘旋。
　　From a front view the small birds can look almost circular. 从前面看，这些小鸟几乎是圆的。
　　Both sides of the river can be explored on this circular walk. 沿着这条环行线路走一圈，河的两边都可以看到。
　　3、circulate
　　circulate是动词，指一个系统或密闭场所内的“循环，流转”，还可以指文章“传递，传阅”或者谣言的”散步，流传“。
　　Cooking odors can circulate throughout the entire house. 做饭的香味可以传到家里的各个角落。
　　An e-mail is already circulating amongst news staff calling for voluntary redundancies. 在新闻部员工中已经在转发一封电子邮件，呼吁大家自愿裁汰。
　　Rumours were already beginning to circulate that the project might have to be abandoned. 已传出谣言说，该项目可能会被迫取消。
　　4、circumference
　　这个词是一个专业术语，指圆形物体的“周长”，半径是diameter。
　　the circumference of the Earth 地球的周长
　　The island is 3.5 km in circumference. 这个岛周长3.5千米。
　　circuit是名词，可以指“环形道路”，“电路”，还可指“巡回线路，巡回”。
　　The earth takes a year to make a circuit of the sun. 地球绕太阳运行一周需要一年的时间。
　　The lights were not working because of a short circuit. 因为短路，电灯不亮了。
　　She's a wellknown figure on the international lecture circuit. 她是知名的国际巡回演讲家。
　　The judge had served for many years on the Northeast Circuit. 这位法官多年来效力于东北部巡回法庭。
　　6、circus
　　circus是名词，指“马戏团”，也可指古罗圆形竞技场。
　　7、cite
　　cite是动词，意为“引用，援引，提及…”作为例证。在阅读中举例时或引用某人的话时常用这个词。
　　The most commonly cited reasons for stopping the treatment were lack of efficacy and side effects. 常举出的停止这种治疗的理由是无效和副作用。
　　He cited the fall in unemployment as one of the government’s successes. 他举出失业人数的下降作为的一项功绩。

　　8、civil civilian civilization civilize
　　civil是形容词，主要有两个意思，一是“公民的，国民的，国内的”，二是“平民的，非军事的，世俗的，非宗教的”。
　　civil war 内战 civil engineering 土木工程
　　Helicopters are mainly used for military rather than civil use. 直升机主要用于军事而非民用。
　　They were married on August 9 in acivilceremony in Venice. 他们于8月9号在威尼斯举行了世俗婚礼。
　　civilian是名词，意为“平民”，也可作形容词。
　　Many innocent civilians were killed during the war. 许多无辜的平民在战争中遭到杀害。
　　He left the army and returned to civilian life. 他从军队退了役，重新过上平民百姓的生活。
　　civilization是名词，意为“文明，文明社会”。
　　The Victorians equated the railways with progress and civilization. 维多利亚时代的人将铁路视为文明和进步。
　　civilize是动词，意为“使…开化，文明，使…有教养”。
　　The Romans set out to civilize the Ancient Britons. 罗马人着手教化古不列颠人。
　　It exerts a civilizing influence on mankind. 这产生了教化人类的影响。
　　9、claim
　　claim常见的意思是“声称，断言”，作名词和动词都可以。
　　The companyclaims that it is not responsible for the pollution in the river. 公司声称对该河流污染没有责任。
　　All parties have claimed success in yesterday's elections. 所有党派都声称在昨天的中取得了胜利。
　　The government'sclaimthat it would reduce taxes proved false. 要减税的说法被证实是假的。
　　10、clap
　　clap作名词和动词都可以，意为“拍手，鼓掌”。
　　The couple were cheered and clapped on their arrival. 这对夫妇抵达时受到了欢呼和鼓掌欢迎。
　　Let's give the children a big clap. 让我们为孩子们热烈鼓掌。
