　　The process of urbanization has been thriving in the global context for decades and somehow leads to a fact that family members, no matter the children or parents, are spending less time at home.
　　The reasons pf this can be divided into two aspects: the change of ways of working and taking holidays. As for city dwellers’ daily routine, the commuting time has prolonged to different extents according to how developed the urban surrounding is, which is an obvious cause of leaving home early and coming late. Another reason beneath notice is that adults are prone to work for longer hours and so be students, occupying more their time outside home. As a compensation of hard working, they usually make a tour, either oversea or day trips at least, during holidays and annual leaves as if relaxing at home unfashionable and inferior.
　　This phenomenon has its domestic and social impacts. On a personal basis, it is like a stressful and constant duration test when most of time is taken by work and study and the residence has become a mere place to sleep. It definitely causes mental and physical health problems in the long run. What is worse, family members without sufficient gathering time may be indifferent and unresponsive to each other and even turn to others to develop intimacy, a root for high divorce rate. However, in a larger scale, the society gains benefits on the boom of local economy and tourism because of its citizens’ diligence and preference on their spare time.
　　To sum up, the causes of the shorten time at home is both subjective and initiative, which mainly brings negative effects to families, the fundamental cells of the society. Therefore, in my perspective, it will do overwhelming harm to the economy in the long term despite the borrowed prosperity at present.
