　　Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to translate a passage from Chinese into English. You should write your answer on Answer Sheet 2.
　　汉语现在是世界上用作本族语人数多的语言。汉语与西方语言的一个重要区别在于她是以方块字（character）而不是以字母构成的。目前仍在使用的书写系统中，汉语是古老的。在，来自不同地区的人可能听不懂对方的方言，但由于汉字有统一的书写形式，他们交流起来几乎没有任何困难，汉语历史上对团结中华民族发挥了重要作用。今天，随着经济的快速增长和全球影响力的增强，越来越多其他国家的人也开始学习汉语。

　　The Chinese language is now the language with the largest number of native speakers in the world. One of the important distinctions between Chinese and Western languages is that it is composed of characters rather than letters. The Chinese language is the oldest writing system still in use at present. In China, people from different regions may not understand each other’s dialects. However, they have almost no difficulty in communicating because Chinese characters are written in a unified form. Chinese history has played an important role in uniting the Chinese nation. Nowadays, with the rapid growth of China’s economy and the increasing global influence, more and more people from other countries have begun to learn Chinese.
　　1. 汉语现在是世界上用作本族语人数多的语言。本族语使用人数多可以译作the largest number of 用一个with链接做伴随状语。
　　2. 汉语与西方语言的一个重要区别在于她是以方块字（character）而不是以字母构成的。“一个重要区别重要差别”可译为one of the important distinctions，或者译成“one of the significant differences”理解一个重要区别指的是有很多差别，不译作“a difference”即可。
　　3. 目前仍在使用的书写系统中，汉语是古老的。“目前”可译为动词短语 at presents。“书写系统”可译作 writing system。这里“in use”可以使用被动翻译成“be used”，这里还可以使用定语从句翻译为“the Chinese language is the oldest writing system that is used”。
　　4. 在，来自不同地区的人可能听不懂对方的方言，但由于汉字有统一的书写形式，他们交流起来几乎没有任何困难，汉语历史上对团结中华民族发挥了重要作用。这句是转折句，所以可以考虑使用连词although、but或者副词however链接。“由于汉字有统一的书写形式”是原因状语从句，用because引导即可。也可以用for接for Chinese characters’ unified writing system。
　　5. 汉语历史上对团结中华民族发挥了重要作用。
　　“发挥了重要作用”可以译为或 play an essential/a vital part/a role in；“对团结中华民族发挥了重要作用”也可以用uniting处理为“It has played an important role in uniting the Chinese nation”。
　　6. 今天，随着经济的快速增长和全球影响力的增强，越来越多其他国家的人也开始学习汉语。“随着...的增强”这个短语可以用with the rapid growth of 翻译。“全球影响力的增强”这里也可以用enhancement表示增强。国家除了country之外可以用nation。
