　　Current primary school students are under huge academic pressure especially when I often see a group of children, carrying a heavy schoolbag, are lined up to wait for the traffic light. As far as I am concerned, it is necessary to enact rules to reduce their assignments and give them more opportunities to do what they are interested in.
　　For one thing, primary school students have already undertaken large responsibility at school. To be specific, in the modern society, for children at the age of seven to twelve, taking various compulsory courses has nearly exhausted them mentally and physically and never should they be compelled to spend lots of time on assignments after school. For instance, In Beijing, the fierce competition to apply for a famous junior middle school has been aggravated and most primary schools, pressed by the society and parents, have to arrange a number of compulsory courses, like Mathematics, Chinese and Literature, to cultivate students’ various capabilities, without laying too much consideration on whether students, at such an early age, can cope with the stress. To develop specialities, not only are primary school students required to master basic knowledge in those science subjects, like Mathematics or Biology, they are also forced to join various training programs to win awards during competitions. Apparently, the enormous pressure primary school students are under can is an indicator of what a stressful life they live at school.

　　For another thing, to reduce the time spent on assignments, children would have more opportunities to develop their interests and hobbies as well as personalities. As is generally known, primary school students are still at an early age during which their potential can be tapped and interests could be developed. For instance, the curiosity of observing and exploring the galaxy can be intrigued and strengthened if they are given more time to learn astronomy. Also, the enthusiasm to learn how the earth forms and why the tectonic plate moves under some rules might drive children to spend more time on Geology. Even for some children who are extremely curious about how to decipher some puzzles in the area of Computer Science, they would be likely to take advantage of extracurricular period to delve books and watch videos to grasp programming language. There are also some children, with an innate physical advantage, interested in playing sports, who should draw parents’ extra attention to send them to some sporting camps. Obviously, what children should engage in during their after-school period should not be limited to their academic assignments; instead, spending most of their time exploring what they are interested or talented in is a more advisable choice.
