In my opinion, both viewers and these countries could benefit enormously from this practice. Certainly, showing a criminal trial on TV is not without risks, as it may lead to imitation. When much detail of criminal cases are revealed, viewers may learn to engage in the same illegal behaviors by mimicking what is shown or, even worse, become more aware of how to get away without being punished by taking advantage of loopholes.This is particularly true for a group of under-educated teens, who are more susceptible. As a result, the crime rate among these adolescents may climb. However, the potential risk is outweighed by the positive effects associated with airing trials on TV. For starters, viewers get educated about law and its implementation. They know where and how to seek assistance when getting involved in a case. For another, televised trials exert a deterrent effecton potential offenders.

　　Seeing criminals facing severe punishmentsfor their illegal behaviors, viewers tend to become fearful and thus more discreet to avoid perpetrating the same offences. For instance, after the broadcasting of a case where a male wassentenced to jail for drunk driving, the number of similar incidents dropped dramatically in the following months.This could bring a relief to a country’s legal system. In conclusion,I would argue that the benefits of televising criminal trials are more significant than the possible risk of inducing the youth into committing crimes. More countries would be well-advised to air important trials on TV to educate and intimidate citizens.
