　　Well to be honest, my flatmate Jill popped into my mind the moment I saw this question. She’s likereally geeky, in a good way, though, you know? She’s like a total English geek. I mean, if you listento her talking, with your eyes closed(独立主格), there is no way you would know that she’s actuallynot a native English speaker. She’s got all the tricks (她会所有那些技巧) – pronunciation,intonation, even those um… slang words (难懂的俚语)! Yes that’s the word. You see, the mostamazing thing about her is that she has never ever travelled abroad. She has always wanted to goto a foreign university, which must have been motivation for her study. She managed to master thelanguage basically through watching TV shows. I mean, how about that! (口语用法”厉害吧!”)Sometimes I join her, too, you know, when she watches those series, like Game of Thrones, youknow, the big hit (大热门), SHIELD, 2 Broke Girls, Sherlock… You name it. She’s not that pickyabout which kind of shows to watch. Besides series she also watches talk shows like the Ellenshow, Graham Norton, Jimmy Kimmel, and so on.

　　Sometimes I find those talk shows really hard tofollow, because… I don’t know, maybe they just contain loads of cultural and political topics withwhich I’m not that familiar. But to Jill, they are just so easy. The reason why she speaks English sowell… I guess it’s just pure love for language and culture. They kid you not (这话是真的), interest isalways THE best teacher.
