Nowadays, it is quite common for young people in many countries to have a break from studying after they graduate from high school, and this trend is not restricted to rich students who have the money to travel, butalso is popular among poorer students who choose to work and become economically independent for a period of time.
　　2. The reasons for this trend may involve the realization that a young adult who passes directly from school to university is rather restricted in terms of general knowledge and experience of the world. By contrast, those who have spent some time in earning a living or traveling to other places, would have a broader view of life and better personal resources for their future use. They tend to be more independent, which is a very important factor in their future academic study and research. The independence would also give them an advantage in terms of coping with the challenges of student life ahead.
　　3. However, there are also some potential dangers in taking time off at that important age. Young adults may end up never willing to returning their studies; or some would find it difficult to readapt to an academic environment. They may think that it is better to continue a particular job, or to do something completely different from taking a college course . But overall, I think that this is less likely today, when academic qualifications are essential for college graduates to get an ideal job.
　　4. My view is that young people should be encouraged to broaden their horizons as much as possible. That is the best way for them to get a clear vision /perspective of what they are hoping to do with their lives. Students with such a perspective are usually the most motivated ones and taking a year off could be the best choice for them to achieve their future goals.

　　1-- In the past, after Chinese students graduated from their senior high schools, they were oftenconfined to their little ivory towers because their parents were just too protective of them. However, as the national border is being gradually erased by globalization, many Chinese parents have been well exposed to more liberal western ideas. Nowadays, some Chinese parents have got more awareness of encouraging their children to work or travel for some time before they begin their collegelives, which, obviously, has caused a lot of controversies in our society. As far as I am concerned, the advantages of working or traveling for some time after graduation from senior high school far outweighs its disadvantages.
　　2-- First and foremost, in order to better adapt to the college life, students shouldbroaden their horizons through traveling, so they could have a betterunderstanding of their future goals. Meanwhile, during the travel or work, students can make new friends and see or experience more. As a result, they could know more about different cultures and even can be more open-minded about different lifestyles, which, in a way, would help promote their learning and boost their confidence at college.
　　3- Secondly, by taking jobs or seeing the world, students can not onlyearn some money to pay for their tuition fees and living costs, but also can experience the reallife. As is known to us, every job has something unique to offer.
