　　Although some people prefer to have a large circle of friends, I think it's feasible to have a small group of friends. In fact, I think it's impossible for a person with a large circle of friends to create a long lasting relationship with all of his friends, because one's energy and time is limited. With a small circle of friends, people can spend time on communicating and traveling together. Therefore, they can get more familiar with each other. This enables them to become closer.

　　The university decides to use money to buy a new lighting system. The letter suggests the university to quit the plan for two reasons. Firstly, the university should spend money on renovating the library instead of buying a new lighting system. Secondly, the lights are so powerful that they brighten the sky and interfere with the use of astronomy equipment. The man agrees with the letter for two reasons. Firstly, the campus is beautiful at night. There is no need for the university to waste money on brightening the campus. Secondly, the man took an astronomy class. The astronomy professor worked on tracking acomet. If the campus becomes bright, it will be impossible for students to look at the comet through the telescope.
　　Task4
　　The reading passage describes the term of state dependent memory, which means that learners are unaware of their surrounding setting when learning. However, when they need to remember what they have learned before, they are affected by their current environment. The professor takes his own experience as an example. When he was in middle school, he worked with other students to give a presentation on tropical plants. To finish the assignment, he and other members had to remember relevant terms and key characteristics of tropical plants. They learned and memorized the needed information in the classroom. On the night before the presentation, the boy invited his team members to his house to practice. Since the setting of his house was totally different from that of the classroom, he and his members found it difficult to memorize the needed information. But the next morning, the presentation went smoothly.

　　The professor describes the mechanisms used by animals to protect themselves from danger in order to survive. One is the defensive adaptations. For example, the shell of the turtle is so solid that it is impossible for predators to crack it open. Also, the turtle can pull in its head and four legs into the shell for protection. The other one is the offensive adaptations. For example, the body of the porcupine is covered with needle-like quills. Predators which brush against the porcupines are pierced by the quills. Therefore, predators stay away from porcupines to avoid getting poked.
